Sinterklaas
Sint Nikolaas arrived in Amsterdam today. Our Dutch friends tell us that the
celebration of Sint Nikolaas' Feast Day is a bigger holiday than Christmas. The
celebration of this Feast day is a tradition from the Middle Ages when Holland
was ruled by Spain. The Feast day is December 6th, but Sint Nikolaas arrives by
boat and visits towns before his Feast day. There is a parade when he arrives.
