Rae and the girls visit

Whew, what a great visit!  Rae, our daughter and three of the four granddaughters: Emily Josie and Rylee were here for 10 days.  This will just be a short summary of the visit; hopefully the photos will complete the story.

They arrived on Saturday the 23rd and after a short rest we went shopping.

Sunday we went to the NEMO Kids Science Museum.

Monday we took the train to Paris.  Grandma and the girls played UNO the entire trip.  We did some sightseeing and some shopping for Emily's graduation dress.  Monday evening Sue and I waited two hours at the Pompidou Center to see three Dali paintings on the 1001 list.  Rae and the girls got something to eat and prowled the souvenir stores.  This was the last day of the special Dali exhibit.

Mar 25, 2013 Train to Paris

Tuesday morning we took Rae and the girls to Gare du Nord where they took the Euro Star for a day trip to London.  They went on the London Eye, visited the Tower of London and took a tour of the major sights in London on a Hop-On, Hop-Off bus.  We (Sue) did some shopping for Emily's graduation dress.  Then we went to the Musee d'Orsay and waited only one hour in line to see four paintings on the 1001 list.  The girls arrived back in Paris at 10:30 pm, they had a great time.

Mar 26, 2013 Gramma & Poppa Paris

Next morning Rae, the girls and I got up early so we could get to the top of  the Eiffel Tower.  We wanted to see the Mona Lisa at the Louvre, but the line was enormous.  Sue and I have been to the Louvre many times and we have never seen a line this long.  So we hit all the souvenir stores around the Louvre, had some lunch and then took a river cruise on the Seine.  Then it was time to take the train back to Amsterdam.  Once again it was UNO the entire ride.

Mar 27, 2013 Girls in Paris

Thursday was a bit of a rest day, except for the marathon UNO card game that went on most of the day.  In the afternoon we went to the Anne Frank house.  After the museum it was off to the carnival that was being held at Dam Square.

Mar 28, 2013 Carnival

Friday it was back to the carnival for a couple of rides.  Then we went to the Albert Cuyp street market.  We went to the "Mini Shard" for lunch.

Mar 29, 2013 Amsterdam

Saturday was more UNO and more shopping.  There are no photos because they left the grouchy old man at home.  Emily found a great dress for only 29 Euros, and the other girls managed to find more souvenirs!

Easter Sunday we went to  church and then took the girls to visit our Amsterdam friends.  We sampled the food at FEBO which is kind of an Amsterdam institution.  We went to see an Amsterdam Ajax football/soccer match.  We had great seats and it was a lot of fun.

Monday morning it was time to go home, so we saw them off at the air port and we've been recovering ever since.
