Berlin, Poznan and Warsaw

Left Amsterdam Saturday morning for the first leg of our journey. Arrived in Berlin mid afternoon and headed to a museum to see one particular painting. We were excited to see our exchange friends Ruth and Karl-Heinz also. We exchanged homes with them in 2011 and we were anxious to see them this trip. They just returned from a 6 month journey starting in Japan and on to Korea, China, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Portland Oregon (Ruth's sister lives there) and last but not least Vegas Baby! They are our travel role models. Had a really great meal with them.
Next morning off to Poznan. It took about 3 hours by train. The train compartments reminded me of those old Miss Marple movies. Compartments with six seats each. You enter from a small aisle thru a sliding glass door. The train was packed. There were people in the aisles sitting on jump seats or just standing.
Poznan is a medium sized town with a typical market square area loaded with cafes and bars. On a Sunday afternoon it was busy. We sampled some beer and had some snacks.
Our room (actually a suite) in Poznan was unreal. It was about as large as our apartment in Amsterdam and decorated to the nines...leather sofa and chairs, wood paneling, big screen TV in sitting room and smaller TV in bedroom, a large bathroom. All this for about 101 US dollars. I love Poland. We had dinner at the hotel also. 2 large beers and a three course meal for under $30 TOTAL!! Breakfast was included in the room and it was a lovely spread too. Anyway, so far so good.
The train trip to Warsaw was similar to the trip to Poznan. The rail car was similar, but instead of a compartment for six, this one was for eight. It was a bit tighter. We had the window open for a time, but one of the ladies requested we close it. There was a really nice breeze, but a bit noisy.
We knew Warsaw isn't a particularly pretty city. Jude was here a few years ago and thought Krakow was much nicer, and from what we have read on the travel forums it seems that is the case. We are here for 2 days and will visit a few museums tomorrow. We will give a more detailed post after that. For now we are off to eat pierogis and sausages.
