May 29, 2017      Copenhagen & Amsterdam

After breakfast we went for a walk around central Copenhagen before our 15:35 flight to Amsterdam.  We walked down a pedestrian shopping street to City Hall Square.  It is similar to Amsterdam’s shopping street Kalverstraat.  We lived there for eleven months in 2012-2013, and would love to do it again.  Copenhagen is a very neat city.  There is a lot we didn’t get to see, so besides the two paintings we haven’t seen, there is a lot to come back for.  We took the tram out to the airport for our flight.  The flight is a little over one hour.  I don’t think the flight was more than half full.  It has been quite a while since we’ve been on a plane that wasn’t packed.  Sue and I had aisle seats across from each other.  The Brit and the Danish guys with Sue brought up Trump before she had anything to say.  We had a similar experience the day before when we asked a man on the street about Copenhagen’s parking rules.  He soon wanted to talk about Trump’s visit and what it meant for US and Europe relations.  Turns out he is a journalist for radio somebody or other in Denmark.  So he follows politics very closely.  Trump’s visit may be “historic”, but not for the reasons he thinks it was.  Anyway it was great to be back in Amsterdam.  It was a very warm day and we both felt so comfortable and relaxed to just walk around familiar places in the city.  After we settled into the hotel we went for dinner at one of our favorite places.  We sat outside and started with our favorite Belgian beer, la Chouffe.  A French couple sat down next to us.  We had fun talking with them.  Turns out the guy, who is probably in his fifties has a 750cc motorcycle, and he wanted to know about driving Route 66.  We told him about a group of guys we met on a previous return flight to the US who were going to rent Harley’s and do the Route 66 trip.  During our nice conversation Sue and I had THREE beers!!!  We made it home slowly without any problems.  Tomorrow we’ll visit a couple of museums because that is what we do.  The link to the photo album is below.
