Aug 29-30 2025   Kewanee Hog Days

Rae drove us to Kewanee for Hog Days.  We were in Kewanee on Friday & Saturday.  If you don’t know, and I don’t know why you would.  Hog Days was started years ago to celebrate that Henry County, where Kewanee is located, was named as the leading pork producer in the U.S.A.  In 1950 the Illinois General Assembly formally designated Kewanee the Hog Capital of the World.   I think there have been Hog Days on Labor Day Weekend since the 1950s.  Angie, Sue’s cousin and her husband, Adam Cernovich have been hosting a Hog Day party all Labor Day weekend for years.  And we have been going there for years.  There are all kind of events all weekend in Kewanee.  While walking around town we noticed that some buildings had large murals painted them.  The murals were about Kewanee, so this immediately became our goal to take photos of all the paintings we could find.  We eventually took photos of 19 paintings.  After we got home Sue did some searching on the internet and learned that there are at least 25 paintings.  So we will have more hunting to do next year. We also went to the Kewanee Historical Museum which is really great. Tons of exhibits organized nicely.
