May 13, 2026 New York MoMA the Museum of Modern Art and the Frick Collection

MoMA was only about a 15 min. walk from our hotel, so we were there when it opened.  This is another fantastic museum, if you like art.  There was ACTUALLY one 1001 painting on display!!  We originally thought there was a possibility that there were two 1001’s on display.  But sadly it turned out there was only one 1001 on display.  Now we have seen 759/1001.  It will take a miracle for us to get to 800/1001.  MoMA has 47 1001 paintings and with the one we saw today we have seen 32 (this includes 3 subs, I make the rules).  Of the 32 we’ve seen almost all were seen in visits in 2010 & 2013!!  Most of the ones we haven’t seen have NEVER been on display when I’ve checked periodically over the years.  As you can imagine, my OCt (Obsessive Compulsive tendency not Disorder) has me checking what’s on display regularly.  My guess is that many of the ‘modern’ paintings that we haven’t seen are paintings that have been donated (for a large tax deduction) by the owners; and would probably not have been selected by the staff of the Museum for the collection, just my opinion.  Now back to what we saw on this visit.  Surprise, I took a lot of photos, because we like many modern artists.  There was also an exhibition of works by Frida and Diego Rivera: The Last Dream, so we also saw that.  Marcel DuChamp a real weirdo had a huge exhibition. Sue likes modern and contemporary. Ray, not so much

After MoMA we went to The Frick Collection.  The Frick was only about a 25 min. walk from MoMA.  There is good and bad news depending on your opinion.  The Frick does NOT allow photos in the museum.  There are no 1001 paintings at the Frick, so you might ask why we went there.  Sue and I have the 1001 list.  I have a ‘few’ other lists, and the Frick had two paintings on two of my other lists, and Sue likes art, and puts up with me because she loves me.  I have put copies of the two Frick paintings at the end of MoMA photos.  There also was a Gainsborough exhibition at the Frick. We had just seen Blue Boy and Pinkie in LA. His art is very recognizable.
