Wednesday June 17th Berlin

We set out to find another work by Claes Oldenburg.  Rae set out to "Hot Rod" around Berlin.  Rae loves to do things.

We found the Oldenburg sculpture sort of.  It was enclosed in a temporary building, so we couldn’t see it.  We went back to the Brandenburg Gate to try and see here when she drove by.  The problem is we didn’t know which side of the gate she would be on.  Well of course we didn’t see her or the cars, but she saw us. My guess is that she saw my hat.  After Rae was done driving we paired up and went to see more sights.  We found Check Point Charlie in the Berlin Wall.  This was the crossing point between East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War, becoming a symbol of the Cold War.  I got a couple of photos of Rae at Check Point Charlie.  We came across a memorial to Berlin Uprising of June 17, 1953.  This was on the 73rd anniversary of an event we were didn’t know anything about.  We were 5 & 6 years old when it happened.  That was the end of our tourism, we did go out for dinner of course.
