We went to The Hague (Den Haag in Dutch) on Wednesday.  There are seven paintings in Den Haag from the list of 1000 that we are compulsively driven to see.  We took a tram from Central station right to the museum.  The ride through the city revealed a very neat and pleasant city with many green spaces and lots of trees.  The Hague has more space than Amsterdam, and fewer tourists wandering around.

The Peace Palace is in The Hague, so of course we had to go see it.  That required a bit of a walk from the museum to another tram line that had a stop right at the palace.  Apparently the palace is too peaceful to have tours, so all we could do is take photos from outside the gate.  The government of Netherlands is situated in The Hague, but Amsterdam is the capital, go figure.  We walked around a bit near the Parliament building and took a few photos.  We saw 5 of the 7 paintings on our list.  This is better than we usually do.  We generally are lucky if we see half the paintings that a museum has.  We were not able to see the most famous painting, “The Girl with Pearl Earring” because it is in Japan.  But it will be in the U.S. next year, so we will have another chance.  But the most interesting thing we saw is in the last photo of the album; it is the “Flying Squirrel Helicopter”.  If you don’t know what that is here is a link to You Tube:
