We are back on the 1001 paintings quest

We left Chicago around 10PM Sunday June 22, we arrived in Copenhagen at about 13:15 Monday June 23.  We checked into our hotel near Central Station.  There are two paintings in Copenhagen on our list, they are in two different museums.  Both museums are closed on Monday!!!  One is within walking distance of our hotel so we set off to find it.  We wanted to be sure we didn't get lost because the museum opens at 10:00 on Tuesday and our plane leaves at 12:25.  This doesn't leave much time to wander around looking for a museum.  It was easy to find.  The second museum's location was too far away from the first to try and visit it AND make our plane.  So we have a good reason to come back to Copenhagen.

Just around the corner from the first museum, the Thorvaldsen, was a stop for a canal cruise, so off we went.  It was perfect, we could sit down and watch Copenhagen go by.  We felt pretty good after our flight because we were able to sleep on the plane, but I don't think we could have walked around for very long.  After the tour we did walk to the Church of Our Savior because Sue thought I needed to climb the spiral steeple.  I did climb it and it wasn't too bad as climbing tall structures goes, because it wasn't too tall.  We then walked back to the center of Copenhagen to get something to eat.  The photo shows that it was very good.  Then it was back to the hotel.  Sue watched some of the World Cup on TV and I went back out to roam around and see what would be the best way to get to the airport from the museum.  It was still pretty bright out when I got back to the hotel around 22:30.

The next morning we left our luggage at the hotel and got to the museum before it opened at 10:00.  We greeted the attendant when he opened the door.  We found our painting (#395) and saw a few other paintings and then it was back to the hotel to get our luggage and then take the train to the airport.  We always feel just a little guilty when we are not able to see everything in a museum, but we get over it pretty quickly.  We made it to the airport about half an hour before they started boarding.

The flight to Amsterdam took just over an hour and we were at our friends' house by 16:00.  We went out and bought a SIM card for Sue's phone so she can check in on Facebook when we are out and about.  Then it was back to our apartment to go out to dinner with our friends at a great little restaurant that we had been to on our last visit.

Wednesday was a quick trip to the grocery to pick up a few things, and to the Rembrandt House to buy our museum cards (good for just about every museum in the Netherlands).  Then it was down to the Rijksmuseum to see the highlights again.  These are the photos from our first two days.
