The trip is over and we are back in
Chicago. Napoli didn’t go well. Tuesday morning we took the Metro to the
train station on the way to visit Pompeii.
My credit card was stolen, they got it out of my buttoned cargo pants
pocket. We didn’t find out that it was
gone until after our visit to Pompeii and Sue got an email alert about unusual
activity on the card. That is when I
checked my pocket and found it was missing.
Short story that ended the trip.
Tracking down paintings for 10 more days just wasn’t important
anymore. So we left Napoli the next day
for Rome and flew to London. We picked
us a suitcase we stored and flew home Friday.
Just because you may be curious, the thief ran up $5,000-$8,000 in
charges that we are NOT responsible for, thank goodness. This is a classic “it can’t happen to me”
moment. I thought my card was safe in
the buttoned pocket and I didn’t need to use the money belt that we had brought
with us! You can’t imagine how stupid
and guilty I felt, and still feel. We
aren’t glad the card was stolen, but it probably was time for the trip to
end. Traveling somewhere every day, checking
in and out of hotels, dragging luggage and not having a down day between trips
was wearing us out. We saw 151 paintings
on the trip which is an average about one per day. The total number of painting we’ve seen is
now at 545.
