4/26/26 7th attempt to post Skamokawa visit
Portland to Skamokawa, WA
Ray, Rae and Sue left early Wednesday morning to visit Steve and Hannah in Portland. Arrived without incident and got our car and off to Wilsonville. Rae checked the NBA schedule and discovered the Bucks were playing in Portland that evening. Rae being Rae had to go of course. I believe the Bucks were slaughtered 130-99! After the game we headed to Steve and Hannah’s. Becky had arrived earlier so we had some beer and pizza. Rae was skiing the next day, so we left sort of early. Pacific Time is not a friend.
Rae had a bus to catch to Mt. Hood so we left Wilsonville earlyish. We went back to Hannah’s to spend the day before we picked up Rae and headed to Skamokawa Washington to stay at Sue’s college roommate’s roadhouse inn. The Roadhouse is beautiful, 3 bedroom and 2 bath that can easily sleep 6 or more. Don is a chef and baker and we enjoyed delicious pizza made in their wood fired oven.
Friday was Hannah’s birthday, so Steve, Hannah, and Becky drove to Kitty and Don’s to join us and spend the night and enjoy a special meal cooked by Don. Their house is way out in the country. They have chickens and a small orchard and of course a garden. They used to have cows and pigs. Dinner consisted of arancini as a starter, brocolli pesto pasta and pork shoulder. A lovely salad was served as well as focaccia. Dessert was of course tiramisu. The wine was plentiful.
Saturday we went to a No Kings Rally in Cathlamet. Steve, Hannah and Becky had their own adventure, a hike. No thanks. We went to the Rally. The population of Cathlamet is 600 and the rally had about 60 folks. We stayed about an hour. After we left Kitty and Don we went looking for a particular waterfall, but the crowd was overwhelming. Traffic was backed up at the expressway to the waterfall. We gave up and headed to the hotel at the airport. Met with the hikers for dinner at a food truck establishment. Said our good byes and promised to return.
