2026 04 03 LA The Broad Museum

We had tried to visit The Broad Museum on the 2^nd, but timed tickets were required.  So we went to this museum first thing today, with timed tickets; the museum doesn’t have any 1001 paintings.  On our way to The Broad we passed MOCA, the Museum of Contemporary Art.  It was undergoing a lot of work, so only two small rooms had a few works of art.  I only took ONE photo!  I took it because it is a work by Claes Oldenburg.  We have been tracking works by Claes and his partner Coosje van Bruggen.  This was evident by all the photos we took of models of their work in San Francisco, and the “Bow and Arrow”.  The Broad has many works by Jean-Michel Basquiat.  His is ‘unique’ to say the least.  He died of a drug overdose when he was 27 years old. I think his art is the kind that you like, or you don’t.  We talked with one of the guides at the museum about Basquiat’s paintings, and he told us that the family that owned The Broad had ‘many’ paintings by the artist.  We think that they probably own the 1001 Basquiat painting.  That is just our guess.  We have seen a few of Basquiat paintings.  We’ve checked that we’ve seen Basquiat’s painting as #697/1001.  We saw another Basquiat exhibition at the Foundation Louis Vuitton in Paris in January 14, 2019.  I posted photos from that exhibition on the blog.  So…if you want to you can look up that post to see those Basquiat paintings, but you would have to be as goofy as me.
