June 7, 2023 Amsterdam Hermitage Rembrandt and His Contemporaries

Another museum with another exhibition.  The exhibition has some paintings by Rembrandt, but more by his Dutch contemporaries.  That is enough art comment for today.  The photo album has photos of the paintings followed by a photo of the information card.  I didn’t add many comments.  You can enlarge a photo by clicking on the magnifying glass with the + sign.  Then you can scrawl the image up/down by dragging the image with your cursor or finger.  When you finish just click on the magnifying glass that now has a minus sign –

After we left the Hermitage we went to see the National Holocaust Names Memorial which is right behind the Hermitage Museum. This from Wikipedia:

“The Dutch national memorial for the Holocaust and the Porajmos at Amsterdam. It commemorates the approximately 102,000 Jewish victims from the Netherlands who were arrested by the Nazi regime during the German occupation of the country, deported and mostly murdered in the Auschwitz and Sobibor death camps, as well as 220 Roma and Sinti victims.” 

There are four brick wall structures.  Each brick has the name of a Dutch victim of the Holocaust.  There is a link to the Wikipedia page after the photo album (I hope it works).  We found the bricks with Annelies Frank (Anne Frank) and her sister Margot Frank, but we could not find a brick for Edith Frank their mother.  We know that the girl’s father, Otto survived the Holocaust.
