Steve and Hannah left Saturday morning for home.  They had a great time.  They were on the go EVERY waking moment!  Saturday afternoon Sue and I went back to the British Museum to try and finish off as many of the “100 Objects…” that we could find.  We found a few more to get our total to 61.  There are another 7 or 8 that may be in a room that is scheduled to reopen on October 25^th.  So we have a chance at getting close to 70.  The rest just are not on display.  We talked to a museum attendant who told us that all 100 were on display in 2010.  He told us that all of the drawings and prints were not on display.  We told him that we had found (or not found) that many objects were not on display.  But it has been fun for a couple of museumophiles like us.  We have seen a lot of exhibits that we typically would not have visited.  It is an incredible museum.  This was the idea behind the BBC radio series and the reason for the book.

Today, Sunday we went out to the London 2012 Olympic Park.  We had visited the park in January 2012 before it opened.  There is a very upscale shopping center next door (that was open on our last visit) and it was very busy, and there is a lot of construction going on around the park.  The area around the stadium is blocked off because the stadium is being modified to be the home field of the West Ham United Football Club (soccer).  The Arcelormittal Orbit is the featured item to visit.  It was designed by Sir Anish Kapoor and Cecil Balmond.  Kapoor is the guy who designed the Cloud Gate (The Bean) in Chicago.  They call it the tallest sculpture in the UK.  I would call it an observation tower, but once again they didn’t ask me.  We took the elevator up to the top observation deck where I took some photos.  Then we walked down to the second deck and from there we walked down the 455 steps to ground level.

The views are nice.  When we were on the observation deck Sue asked a Brit what they were doing to the stadium.  He told her that they were putting a roof on it.  He added that could you imagine playing football in London in January?  She replied that we are from Chicago, and that, yes she can imagine playing football outdoors in January.
