June 8, 2017       St. Petersburg               State Russian Museum
To update the painting chase, as of June 15th we have seen 636/1001 paintings.  Tourism is much more noticeable in St. Petersburg than Moscow for at least two reasons.  First, it is a port for cruise ships, and if you are on a tour you can visit for three days without getting a visa.  Most of the important sites are centrally located.  One of the main streets Nevsky Prospect reminded us of the Wisconsin Dells.  Large crowds, individuals and tour groups trooping on both sides of the street.

One other item of note is that we saw many, many military people on the streets.  Many of these appeared to be cadets.  We saw all branches of service, and too many different uniforms to keep track.
