Our hotel has a wonderful buffet breakfast.  We took full advantage of it this morning, and will do so again on Friday, Saturday and Sunday before we leave for France.  Then we were off for an 11:00 appointment at the Victoria & Albert Museum.  The V&A has 16 paintings on the 1001 list, we had seen 12 before today’s visit.  There are three on display, and I made this appointment to see the fourth.  It was a quick tube trip from our hotel to the museum.  We met our nice young guide, who escorted us into the storage room for the Asian paintings.  His specialty is actually Egyptian art.  Sue asked if he was familiar with Robert Ritner, our neighbor in Lakeview.  He is an Egyptian scholar at the University of Chicago.  Our guide, Benjamin knows of him because he read his book, The Mechanics of Ancient Egyptian Magical Practice, It is a small world.  We thanked Benjamin and went off to find the remaining three 1001 paintings that were on display.  

Our next destination was the Tate Modern to see two more 1001 paintings.  The Modigliani Exhibit didn’t allow photos, lucky for you.  It was a very big exhibit, this artist had a unique style (don’t they all?).  He often distorts his portraits by elongating the sitter’s necks, some just a little and some a lot.  You can recognize his paintings when you see them.  The next 1001 painting is abstract art.  The artist, as pretty typical, made a series of similar paintings.  It is very dark as you can see.

These are the six 1001 paintings that are currently on display in London, and this gets us to 667 of 1001.  We hope to see another 24-25 during our trip around France.  We also are tracking down paintings on about five more lists (Caravaggio) that I’ll be mentioning as we see the paintings.

Now it is about time we head out for dinner and a drink or two.
