Going back to Santa Cecelia today to see another 1001 painting and do a self-guided walk from our travel book.  This, my friends, was a real highlight of the trip.

You enter the convent where the fresco is housed by ringing the doorbell to a door that looks like it is hundreds of years old.  We were greeted by a young lady who directed us to a small office.  We paid our small admission charge and our personal tour guide, a very old and cute nun, about 3 foot tall led us to the fresco.  After we viewed the fresco I asked for a picture with her.  At first she said no because she thought Ray wanted to photograph the fresco.   But when she understood that I wanted my picture with her she giggled and agreed.  It is sooo cute.  It is my Facebook profile picture, and will be for as long as we are here in Rome.  Oh, and by the way, her name is Sister Cecilia, just like the church that has the fresco.  Maybe she’s a relative.

We continued on our walk past a few places we had gone before on Monday.  We didn’t do the complete walk since it included going up and up Janiculum Hill. 

Took the bus home and headed to Santa Maria Maggiore.  This place is huge.  Have to go thru security to get in.  Some little nun cut in front of me in line, but I let it go and offered it up.

Next stop, St. Peter in Chains.  We saw the chains.  The church is better known for the huge Michelangelo Tomb of Pope Julius II with the statue of Moses.  Michelangelo didn’t finish the tomb because he was called to do the Sistine Chapel, and Julius isn’t buried here.  He is at the Vatican.

Another long day of walking.  We are averaging 7 to 8 miles a day.
