It was off to Ascott House to see #401, “Dordrecht from the
North” by Albert Cuyp. It was a half
hour train ride to the town of Leighton Buzzard and then a 10 minute bus ride
to the house near Wing. The House and
some of the art collection was donated to the National Trust by the de
Rothschilds. They still own most of the
4000 acre estate and retain very close control of the house. No photos are allowed inside so you lucked
out there. We did walk through some of
the gardens and photos are allowed there.
We were probably in the younger quintile of the visitors. There were a fair number of people riding Rascals,
so we have years of traveling ahead of us.
I don’t have much to add to the photos of the garden, again lucky for
you.
On the train ride home we had a stop in Watford. The platform was packed with kids carrying packages. One young boy had a fluffy owl hand
puppet. Immediately we thought Harry
Potter. Yes, it was the Harry Potter
studio tour. The mom who sat across from
us said she was broke. She had spent the
whole day there. A little guy next to us
was waving a wand. I read a few reviews
about the tour when we got home and people raved about it. This is where the movies were made, many of
the great sets intact.
