April 17 Versailles (post 2 of 3)
I had planned to visit the Palace of Versailles once we were
in Paris. It is definite must see, and
it has two 1001 paintings, only one was on display per the web site. It was only about an hour from Le Mans so
made that our stop for the day. Sue read
that Tuesday is the second worst day to visit after Sunday, because it is
closed on Monday. We arrived a little
after noon, and we could see that the line to get in was very long. We bought our tickets and got in line. We waited about an hour and a half to get
in. We headed to the wing that had our
painting. Right inside the door we asked
an attendant how to get to our gallery.
He told us that it was closed!
Sue asked how long would it be closed, and he said just today, aargh!!!
Like everyone else we followed the path through the
Palace. It is big and there are many
rooms. They are all opulently
decorated. The Hall of Mirrors is
spectacular. We walked through the rooms
for at least an hour. We did not buy the
option to visit the gardens or stables.
We still had the option to visit again once we were in Paris. Versailles is covered by the Paris Museum
Pass which we buy, and the Navigo Transportation Pass, so there was still hope
we might get to see our painting. Then
it was back to Le Mans for a home cooked meal.
