The drive from Valence to Nice was about four hours.  We stopped at the Foundation Maeght first.  The Foundation is in Saint-Paul de Vence that is basically a suburb of Nice.  The GPS in the Renault seemed to take an unusual route to the museum, but we got there.  The Foundation has a 1001 painting, but we knew it would not be on display, but we stopped anyway.  It isn’t a big museum, and most of the permanent collection was replaced by the special exhibition, and there is a lot of sculpture, so we didn’t stay very long.  On our way out, a lady told Sue that she really liked her tattoo because it makes a statement.  If she knew Sue, she could get many more statements.

Then we continued to our hotel in Nice.  Our GPS was challenged because there was a lot of road work being done, including adding or extending tram lines.  There were a few recalculating moments, but we eventually made it.  That night we had one of the best meals of the trip.  Sue researches restaurants on Trip Advisor, and she picked a winner.  The restaurant didn’t have an English menu, and the hostess didn’t speak much English, but she was super nice.  Sue knows enough about food to figure out what many of the items were with the help of the hostess.  Anyway the meal was great, I can’t tell  you what we had, but Sue can.  The next morning we took a bus to the Matisse Museum to see another 1001 painting, that I knew would be on display.  Then we went back to the hotel to check out and go to Montpellier.  The GPS was challenged again as it led me out of the parking garage to new dead end because of a tram line, but I’ve gotten pretty good at turning around in the middle of the street.  Montpellier has two 1001 paintings that we will see tomorrow.
